Curious what Active Play Club could look like in your community? 
Here are a few program delivery models for Active Play Club that are currently working in communities in BC.
School Staff Led Model: Prince George 
Active Play Club is run by the Community Schools Coordinator. The program is held five days per week for 90-minute sessions. The program has capacity for 30 kids and has two Active Play Club leaders who are paid educational assistants. The program is held on school grounds and has access to both indoor and outdoor play space. 
Community Organization Led Model: Kelowna 
Active Play Club is run by a community organization with established relationships with the school community and municipal recreation. The program is held twice per week at two elementary schools for 90-minute sessions. The program has capacity for 24 kids per site and has two Active Play Club leaders who are paid staff of the community organization. The program is held on school grounds and is entirely outdoors.  
Municipal Recreation Led Model: Penticton 
Active Play Club is run by the City’s recreation department. The program is held once per week for two-hour sessions at one school. The program has a capacity for 24 kids and has two Active Play Club leaders. The program is held mostly at the elementary school but enhanced with access to the recreation centre facilities which are within walking distance.  

“This was an amazing initiative that families really benefited from. The program was community minded, accessible to all, and brought about new friendships. 
It was beneficial for neurodivergent kids who may not do well in heavily structured extracurricular activities. Kids who generally play on devices after school were now able to stay on school grounds longer to play with friends. 
It also released a lot of the pressure of getting to school for that 2:30pm pick up. We are very excited and motivated to keep this going for the next school year.”
